Summary Description:
Reporting directly to the Cebu Site Director (with a dotted line to the Assistant Corporate Controller at the U.S. headquarters) and based in Cebu, Philippines, the Assistant Controller – Accounting Operations, serves as a key financial leader and change agent for Cebu site and a critical extension of the overall Controllership function of the organization. The Assistant Controller will play an important role - defining, staffing, developing, monitoring and continuously improving the accounting operations organization in Cebu. This individual is expected to collaborate closely with the Cebu Shared Services teams as well as the U.S functional leads and OpCo’s as needed to ensure a high quality of service delivery and support.
Essential Responsibilities:
The purpose of the operations group, which is in the process of being formed, is to provide high quality, timely specialized accounting support to Corporate Controllership and company's Operating companies (“OpCo’s”). The operations organization is comprised of the following teams (expected to expand over time):
Lease Accounting – maintains repository of all lease agreements and performs all lease accounting (full team in place today)
Time and Expense report monitoring – implementing single instance software solution to enable centralized time and expense report monitoring
Financial Systems – establishing international-based user support and maintenance for financial systems to complement the U.S. based support team and provide 24/7 support to users, the majority of which are outside the U.S.
Tax – implementing U.S. sales tax centralization for an OpCo, foreign bank account reporting (FBAR), tax basis fixed asset reconciliations, etc.
Payroll monitoring – implementing centralized review of U.S. payroll, which was recently consolidated
Financial Planning and Analysis – identifying financial planning and analysis tasks to support OpCo FP&A and Corporate FP&A teams
Inter-Company – identifying opportunities to increase efficiency and effectiveness of the inter-company accounting process globally
Treasury – bank portal user access management
Internal Controls – continuous auditing, including analytics and data mining, to provide management additional comfort over financial accuracy (separate from Internal Audit)
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Management or related field preferred; MBA is a plus
Minimum twelve (12) years’ related experience
Strong leadership and change management skills; someone who can quickly establish a vision for the group, define roles and responsibilities, onboard distinctive talent and scale up the function with a focus on high quality and accountable service delivery
Strong U.S. GAAP technical accounting skills are preferred along with operational accounting and internal controls.
Demonstrated experience leading the centralization and standardization of functions and tasks
Shared services and FP&A experience are preferred but not required.
Candidates should demonstrate an ability to influence others to overcome obstacles and expand the capabilities of the operations team over time.
Big 4 audit experience (either in the U.S. or on international components of U.S. public companies) with SEC listed clients is required as is an active CPA license.
