Job Description
Accountability Statement:
The Global Custodian Management Group (GCM) oversees Manulife’s global custodial relationships, supports robust vendor management governance processes and provides operational support to business units globally across the institution.
GCM is looking for a Senior Business Analyst to join the MBPS services unit. The successful incumbent will be responsible for the maintenance and development of metrics-based reports, vendor performance reports, global custody reports and supporting tactical requests. An aptitude to get up to speed quickly and ability to deep dive into issues is key. This person will liaise extensively with Operations teams across the institution to collect data from multiple and disparate sources.
The successful incumbent will also show an aptitude for learning, showing initiative and identification of opportunities for improvements.
The incumbent is required to work on a fixed night shift to match the North America business hours. However, must be willing to report on a mid/day shift if needed to attend meetings/discussions with Asia offices.
Responsibilities:
Recommend the establishment of new or modified reporting methods and procedures to improve report content and completeness of information
Extract existing data to calculate/format into presentable reports, charts, and graphs
Validate vendor and internally generated analytics / valuations
The incumbent will maintain day-to-day relationships with various clients including front office, back office, treasury, risk and other internal departments
Summarize vendor products by region, custodian and line of business
Ability to analyze data at a detailed level while being able to summarize and communicate at a high level
Critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts and decompose high level information into a detailed cost benefit analysis and identify gaps in information
Strategic
Support data collection and develop material content related to quarterly Global Custodian Council meetings
Support ad-hoc requests raised by senior management as required
Reporting
Create, maintain and update key GCM reports such as global custody report, performance surveys, status reports
Analyze, enhance and enrich data on current custodial reports including streamlining, delineating information by region, custodian and business group
Participate in initiatives to reduce manual collection of data and automation of reports
Create and maintain key global custodial profiles (overview of top tier relationships, current services/fees, global capabilities and systems used)
Identify, create, maintain and report on spend and contract information for selected custodians
Develop and produce regular monthly and quarterly reporting on key vendor and demand metrics and contract management activity
Complete ad hoc analyses of historical custody fee rates, services, and rate comparisons by service and business segment to support development of vendor strategies and vendor negotiations to be shared with both internal and external stakeholders
Operational Support/Tactical
Monitor the GCM mailbox and ensure all queries are addressed in a timely manner
Monitor news reports for updates or developments for top custodians
Regular review and validation of ProContracts database (contract maintenance, reconciliations, ensure contracts/agreements are uploaded, accuracy of information reported, identify gaps/missing agreements)
Regular review and collection of SOC1 Control Reports for top custodians (ensure that all reports are collected and reviewed timely)
Maintain and update procedures documents as required
Knowledge/Skills/Competencies:

Superior report creation and maintenance skills including automating information Building and maintaining relationship with internal and external team members in multiple locations Strong multi-tasking capabilities to manage multiple competing tasks and priorities Comfortable working under changing circumstances Demonstrated initiative and ability to think and act critically, creatively and independently Knowledge or experience with Financial Services organization Good knowledge and understanding of securities instruments/settlements, foreign exchange and derivative instruments/settlements and banking process Superior analytical and problem solving Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Desired Skills and Experience:
Bachelor's degree; Finance, Business preferred MS office skills, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS access, Charts & graphs Knowledge and experience with financial services industry specifically asset servicing Solid understanding of various investment instruments and their analytics, characteristics and benchmarks Candidate must have highly developed analytical, conceptual and problem-solving skill sets Position requires the ability to quickly trouble shoot issues and think outside of the box Must enjoy solving complex problems and implementing creative solutions in a changing and dynamic financial environment
