We are currently looking for a Software Development Manager to lead two diverse agile engineering teams that build full-stack applications in serverless and cloud-native AWS environments. You will work on Arc I/O, Arc’s inbound and outbound feed’s offering powering off site experiences across multiple platforms, and Clavis, Arc’s personalization and recommendation engine for promoting content on the experiences our customers build in PageBuilder. In this role you will oversee the development efforts of the I/O and Clavis teams and will collaborate closely with the PageBuilder Engine and Themes development teams as well as working with other Arc product teams to enable innovative news experiences for a variety of news, radio and broadcast companies worldwide.
Responsibilities
Active participation in team agile activities such as story grooming, planning work backlog, work estimation, sprint planning, retros, demos, etc.
Sharing ideas and experiences as well as asking questions. In other words, working to remove ambiguity for both oneself and team members.
Eagerness to learn and help others evolve and grow their skill set. Sharing knowledge about new software languages, tools and applications.
Manage a full stack team of software engineers that design, implement, instrument, test, deploy and support their own code.
Regularly guide the technical implementation of multiple projects, with up to 30% of time spent on Architecture, Code Review and Incident Management
Be responsible for the overall planning, execution, and success of complex technical projects in an Agile process.
Coach team members on a daily basis, set goals and conduct performance reviews.
Have an understanding of client needs and design solutions for how to achieve them.
Assist teams to maintain a balanced support workload.
Partner with Product Owners to maintain a roadmap and project plan that meets the demands of our clients.
Turn the roadmap into staffing needs and a hiring strategy.
Track and control the AWS and other input expenses of your team’s products.
Implement a technical strategy that ensures future success of your products and teams.
Contribute to design and architecture of systems that span multiple teams and/or products.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
BA/BS in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent practical experience.
8+ years experience building highly-scalable customer facing applications.
2+ years experience managing engineers.
Proficiency in at least one server side programming language, preferably JavaScript.
Experience working with HTML, CSS and JavaScript, preferably within the React JavaScript framework.
Experience architecting and implementing scalable SaaS or Cloud based applications.
Experience leading the implementation of technical products and mentoring junior and senior developers.
Experience hiring engineers and growing software engineering teams.
Exceptional written and oral communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience building web applications and API products on AWS and AWS Lambda.
Experience developing or managing engineers who build SaaS products.
Experience with end-to-end testing frameworks.
Experience analyzing application and cloud environment performance.
Experience writing software that solves personalization or recommendation use cases.
