Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge invites applications for a Research and Teaching Fellowship, to be held for the academical year 2020-2021 with possible renewal for two further years. The successful candidate, of post-doctoral level or similar, will carry out a programme of research in the field of modern Catalan Culture or Language. The Fellowship will also involve a combined teaching load, to all levels of Catalan and Spanish language, of some 12-14 weekly hours during the twenty Cambridge teaching weeks. Experience in all relevant areas of teaching is highly desirable. Expertise in distance learning and digital technology is also highly important.
The Fellowship is co-sponsored by the Institut Ramon Llull (a public organization that promotes Catalan language and culture internationally, and Catalan language studies at universities abroad). The stipend is currently set at £19,612 (£21,236 for candidates with a Ph D). The Batista i Roca Fellow receives free residence in a bedsitter in College (or a living-out allowance, currently set at £3,469 p.a.), free meals on high table when the kitchens are open, and other benefits associated with a Fellowship at Fitzwilliam College. How to apply
Applicants should send by email attachment to both the Master’s Assistant at Fitzwilliam College (***************@fitz.cam.ac.uk) and also to the Institut Ramon Llull (***************@llull.cat), the following documents: a specimen unit of teaching of some aspect of the Catalan language relevant to the beginners’ course; and, in both English and Catalan, a copy of their curriculum vitae together with a detailed statement of their research proposal (not exceeding 1,000 words). They should also ask three referees to ensure that their references reach the Master’s Assistant and the Institut Ramon Llull before the closing date. Selected candidates will be called for interview, via Skype, Zoom or similar, at a mutually convenient date towards the end of June/ beginning of July. Candidates will be required to demonstrate a knowledge of Catalan, English and Spanish at native or near native level.
