Research Technician Iii - Laboratory

Under the general supervision of an Assistant Scientist, establish and maintain field, screenhouse, and greenhouse experiments, and perform data documentation for analysis. Perform laboratory procedures as needed and collect, process, and organize experimental data in the field of rice grain quality and nutrition. Prepare required samples and maintain inventory of chemicals, supplies, and materials as needed.**This position will be based at the IRRI Headquarters, Los Baños, Philippines and may only be filled by permanent citizens of the Philippines.****Roles and Responsibilities**:- Perform/conduct activities to support experiment(s) in the field of grain quality and nutrition- Perform laboratory procedures for grain sample preparation and assist in rice grain quality experiments such as starch biochemical assays, metabolite screening, texture profile analysis, head rice yield analysis, sensory profile analysis as needed- Collect and/or prepare samples, solutions, standards, and/or chemicals- Support characterization and screening of plant samples including phenotyping activities in the field- Operate and perform daily preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and conduct good housekeeping on assigned work area- Ensure ready supply of reagents, stock solutions and laboratory consumables- Support requisition and inventory of laboratory supplies- Provide assistance in the laboratory to scientists, researchers and collaborators on the conduct of experiment(s) including preparation of samples and chemicals- Supervise contract workers in the field for seeding and transplanting or in the lab for sample preparation- Collect, encode, document, and submit data for analysis- Prepare schedule for laboratory and field activities- Assist in the treatment and disposal of chemical wastes**Qualifications**:- High school graduate- At least 2 years work experience doing field and laboratory work**Skills Required**:**Mandatory**- Basic knowledge in MS Office programs such as MS Word, MS Powerpoint, and MS Excel or related software**Preferred**- Knowledge in operating laboratory instruments and equipment i.e. microcentrifuge, analytical balance, speed vacuum**IRRI offers a highly extensive employee benefits package inclusive of globally-covered medical insurance, retirement plan, life and accident insurance and other allowances.
