As a Patent Technical Assistant , you will be trained up to assist a team leader to provide high-quality patent and registered design services to clients in Australia and around the world. This includes reviewing client's inventions to gain an in-depth understanding of the technology, and preparing patent specifications to protect these, as well as facilitating the filing of patent and registered design applications around the world, and ensuring that tasks relating to these applications are carried out.

What awaits you in this role Primary
Using technical expertise to interpret and analyse patent specifications, drawings, standards, regulations, technical literature and related products and processes; Assisting in preparing legal opinions on infringement, patentability, and invalidity in conjunction with supervising attorney. Performing limited searches of patents and industrial designs; Analysing searches and search results regarding inventions and designs, including examination reports issued by government patent and designs offices, assisting in advising clients on the patentability of their inventions in relation thereto; and Preparing correspondence for submission to government patent and designs offices in the pursuit of patent and design protection for clients' IP protection. Assisting in the preparation of draft patent and design applications in conjunction with supervising attorney and escalating as needed. Reviewing, advising on, and preparing responses to examination reports. Carrying out technical tasks relating to the maintenance of files, such as sending reminders to clients of deadlines. Other Tasks:
Liaising with overseas attorneys to provide instructions to file new applications and provide instructions on filings, renewals and prosecution. Carrying out administration on files relating to particular matters to ensure that deadlines are met and that tasks are carried out in a timely manner. Coordinates meetings and conducts other legal, technical, and administrative tasks that maybe required from time to time. What do you need to succeed A bachelor's degree in any engineering field or any applied sciences (except chemistry and biomedical sciences); Excellent grasp of English both in verbal and in writing, notably with previous experience in liaising directly with customers and stakeholders; Experience in the same line of work would be an advantage but not essential; Further study in law or intellectual property from any jurisdiction is preferred but not essential; Strong analytical ability; Drive and enthusiasm; Excellent interpersonal and time management skills; Comprehensive knowledge of intellectual property and brand protection; Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks; Proficient in Microsoft Office; Proactive with a strong work ethic, propensity to learn and sense of pride and accountability in work; and Ability to anticipate needs and respond to changing demands.
