Summary of Position
The University of New Hampshire Franklin Pierce School of Law invites applications for an Assistant Dean of Career Services.
This role works with students, prospective employers, faculty and alumni to place students in legal and law-related employment. Provides employment/career services for Juris Doctor and graduate students. Compiles and reports accurate employment data to the ABA, NALP and similar entities as required. Administers all activities relating to Career Services functions. Teaches classes and seminars related to career planning and professionalism.

Other minimum qualifications
J.D. degree with significant New Hampshire practice experience;
Familiarity with legal, business and marketplace influences impacting law practice hiring;
Ability to deal effectively with the public and work cooperatively with faculty, administration and staff;
Ability to supervise others effectively;
Ability to maintain accurate and timely records and reports;
Excellent oral and written communications skills;
Broad base of professional legal and business contacts; and
Ability to communicate clearly with and relate to law students.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
Ability to use existing contacts to market law student placements with attorneys, law firms, businesses, governmental agencies, the judiciary, public interest groups and other legal employers;
Previous experience with law-related hiring;
Law school or graduate level student mentoring experience;
Knowledge of court systems, law firm practices relating to hiring;
Ability to counsel/teach students the skills and abilities necessary to complete a successful job search;
Ability to interact with a variety of constituencies;
Ability to create effective business and marketing plan and implement it;
Ability to create, write, and maintain effective marketing tools for career placement services;
Work closely with students to improve job search skills and materials;
Maintain professional demeanor;
Work independently and exercise good judgment;
Maintain positive approach under pressure.

UNH Law is situated in Concord, the capital of New Hampshire. Concord is approximately an hour’s drive from Boston, the beautiful New Hampshire seacoast, and the White Mountains. It is part of the University of New Hampshire, a major research institution providing comprehensive, high-quality undergraduate programs and graduate programs of distinction. UNH’s main campus is located in Durham on a 188-acre campus, 60 miles north of Boston and 8 miles from the Atlantic coast. Duty/Responsibility
Market UNH law students to prospective employers; Counsel students about their job searches and career goals; Develop placement opportunities in a variety of legal settings; Coordinate employment opportunities for students; Create environment with learning opportunities for students to prepare them for job search; Keep current on job trends and tools to enhance job search techniques; Create/coordinate job fairs, networking and other events to assist students in obtaining legal employment; Compile and report accurate employment data to the ABA, USNWR, NALP, Princeton Review, and other entities as required; Teach seminars and classes regarding skills necessary to secure a legal job; Coordinate with Externship program; Maintain and participate in law school activities relating to job placement; Administer all activities relating to the Career Services functions; and Other duties as assigned.
Duty/Responsibility
Create, write, produce and maintain current marketing tools for use in marketing calls to legal employers and anyone else who might have a need for a law student/graduate; Stay informed about local “legal and business news” by reading current publications and articles; Be willing to travel to different legal markets to meet with potential employers; Actively solicit job opportunities using all possible avenues; Screen and post all known, pertinent job opportunities; Solicit and coordinate opportunities for on-campus interviews; Meet students individually and counsel and recommend appropriate positions/opportunities; Hold workshops on resume writing, interviewing, and job search skills; Establish and maintain contact with groups, organizations that offer services, and/or information, on employment opportunities, career in transition information, and job enhancements; Hold “mock” interviews for students with appropriate critiquing; and establish and maintain library of Career Services publications to aid students in field selection, and available opportunities.
