Job Description

The Washington Post has been on a mission to create advertising products that are effective, scale, and add to the overall user experience.

The Product Marketing Manager will primarily craft The Post's go-to-market positioning and strategy for The Washington Post's digital product portfolio (Home Page, Unified App, Launcher, Newsletters, and others) as well as video and non-owned and operated channels (Apple News and others) to strengthen The Post's overall position within the advertising technology, content marketing, and media industries. In addition, the Manager will collaborate with the client solutions team and stakeholders across the organization to effectively position and productize opportunities to take to market for our clients.

The role will also be responsible for collaborating with cross-functional teams to create and maintain industry vertical collateral that highlights audience and marketing trends for select categories.

The ideal candidate for this role should be a bold, creative thinker, highly immersed in advertising technology, excellent communicator, motivated, and able to tie marketing initiatives back to revenue opportunities.

Responsibilities
1. Sales Enablement & Training
Work directly with the sales team on training that enables them to communicate the unique value proposition of select WaPo products effectively
Provide industry/vertical materials and product collateral to sales teams to allow them to be effective on sales calls, pitch presentations, and VIP meetings to showcase our products and advertiser-specific ideas directly to clients
Stay abreast of competitive products and developments in the industry, their use cases, best practices, etc. and communicate that information back to our sales team
Bring in outside experts to share new ideas and trends that relate to our business to the sales and marketing teams

2. Positioning & Collateral
Create and manage all product-focused marketing materials, old and new, succinctly and persuasively demonstrating their value and showing the clear client benefits of using WaPo products and WaPo brand alignment across different client needs.
Analyze the performance of our products, infuse insights/data back into our marketing materials, working closely with our performance analytics team
Create Industry vertical decks that illustrate audience and market trends along with positioning WaPo solutions
Support revenue-driving teams with best-in-class marketing materials and proposals

3. Product Development
Collaborating with the newsroom and commercial product teams to create the business case for new products using industry trends, competitive analysis, and internal learnings
Identify opportunities to implement effective content distribution strategies with The Creative Group where WaPo, newsletter, and app products can provide a platform to add scale and efficiency
Build consensus among company leadership and relevant stakeholders to drive forward revenue-driving initiatives to completion

Qualifications
Experience working with a newsroom preferred.
At least 6 years of work experience, 2-3 years of experience in digital space preferred
Strong interest and engagement with the Washington Post brand
Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills are mandatory.
Ability to take ownership of key initiatives and drive from ideation to execution
Ability to manage a team, delegate work to ensure deadlines are met, and timely opportunities are pushed in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent communication skills, including strong presentation and writing skills
Must possess a keen understanding of the news/journalism/media business and have a respect for content and the creative/editorial process
Must be able to build trust and relationships easily
Ability to prioritize, multitask, and meet deadlines
B.A. in Communication/Marketing/Business; Masters degree preferred
Collaborative nature and deep interest in culture, high-quality journalism, and high-quality technology; highly motivated by an insatiable desire to make great things.
Understanding of design thinking, ad technology, and content marketing distribution
