Job Description Summary
The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at Auburn University invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor in Korean, starting fall semester 2020. This is a full time nine-month, non-tenure-eligible position, with the possibility of renewal (for up to three years) by mutual agreement, contingent upon availability of funds, enrollment, and satisfactory performance.
Teaching load is 3/3 per academic year of mostly elementary- and intermediate-level Korean language courses. If need exists, candidate may be asked to teach on the upper level in area of specialization. Minimum qualifications include: PhD in Korean Language, Linguistics, Literature, or related field at the time of appointment, native or near-native fluency in both Korean and English, teaching experience at the college level in the US, positive teaching evaluations, familiarity with current language pedagogy, and willingness to use Canvas course management software. The candidate must also be willing to take part in extra-curricular activities to help promote participation in the Korean program.
The candidate must be able to communicate fluently in Korean and English.

Auburn University was established in 1856 as the East Alabama Male College, 20 years after the city of Auburn's founding. In 1872, under the Morrill Act, the school became the first land-grant college in the South and was renamed the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Alabama. In 1899 the name again was changed, to the Alabama Polytechnic Institute. Finally, in 1960 the name of the school was changed to Auburn University, a title more in keeping with its location, and expressing the varied academic programs and larger curriculum of a major university.
