Job Summary: The Technical Development Manager (TDM) leads the technical strategy, product support, and continuous improvement initiatives within the heavy equipment sector.
This role involves managing technical teams and ensuring product excellence across the full lifecycle—from planning and development to implementation and field performance.
The TDM plays a key role in aligning technical execution with business goals, supporting dealer networks, and maintaining compliance with industry and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities: Team Leadership • Hire, mentor, and manage technical staff including service engineers, trainers, and field support teams.
• Lead training and development programs to improve technical competency across regional teams and dealer networks.
Project Management • Oversee technical projects involving product rollout, system integration, or equipment upgrades.
• Manage timelines, resources, and budgets to ensure project completion within scope.
Technical Expertise • Provide hands-on expertise in diagnostics, mechanical and electrical systems, and hydraulics for heavy equipment.
• Support technical problem resolution for dealers, service centers, and customers.
Stakeholder Communication • Serve as a technical liaison between internal teams, OEMs, and external partners.
• Translate technical issues and solutions clearly for non-technical stakeholders including sales, marketing, and executives.
Quality Assurance & Compliance • Implement quality control measures across all technical projects.
• Ensure compliance with industry regulations, safety protocols, and warranty standards.
Resource & Process Optimization • Optimize resource allocation for technical support, training, and R&D collaborations.
• Recommend and implement improvements in service methodologies and equipment performance tracking.
Strategic Contribution • Contribute to product development and go-to-market strategies by providing technical insights.
• Participate in strategic planning and innovation initiatives with senior leadership.
Skills & Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related field (Master's preferred).
• 7+ years of experience in technical roles within the heavy equipment, construction, or industrial machinery sector.
• Proven leadership experience managing cross-functional technical teams.
• Deep understanding of hydraulic, mechanical, and electronic systems in heavy machinery.
• Familiarity with OEM systems, telematics, and diagnostic software.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking abilities.
• Project management experience (PMP certification is a plus).
• Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations in construction equipment.
