Job Description:
The Managing Editor partners with the Editor in chief to establish editorial direction and maintain the magazine’s overall look, voice and content. He/she should manage and oversee staff members’ activities and deliverables, as well as day-to-day operations to ensure quality and timely delivery of the magazine. He/she is also responsible for establishing and sustaining positive and professional relations with contributors, industry collaborators and featured personalities and/or establishments.


SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES CONTENT Takes an active role in regular story conferences and assists the Editor in chief in finalizing monthly lineup Contributes high-quality, error-free content that is truthful, educational, enjoyable and aligned with the brand strategy Proofreads, fact-checks and edits all articles to ensure that all stories have the magazine’s voice Sources accompanying art for each article Checks and edits all layouts and monitors progress of all colored proofs until turnover to printers Attends key shoots and conducts interviews, supervises, provides art direction and styles photoshoots, as needed Assists the Editor in chief in producing covers that are innovative, current and appealing to the market Writes and produces minimum of five regular or monthly sections Flows final art and copy to production MANGEMENT AND ADMINISTRATION Assigns stories and timelines to staff and appropriate contributors Monitors completion of staff assignments and deliverables to ensure compliance with deadlines Provides guidance and assistance to any staff who is unable to meet agreed output and production schedule Manages and monitors all staff OBs, VLs and SLs to ensure timely completion of the magazine Partners with the Editor in chief in upgrading individual competencies Instills discipline to promote workplace harmony, professionalism and productivity Cascades information to staff and implements directives of the Editor in chief Builds, trains and maintains good working relationships with a pool of qualified contributors to produce excellent content Accomplishes proper initial and final pagination in accordance with production schedules BUDGET Assists the Editor in chief in implementing the agreed budget by pre-approving monthly spending and authorizing only payment requests that are within the assigned amount In charge of liquidating contributor fees and editorial allowances every issue Proposes cost-effective strategies in completing stories, shoots or events MARKETING AND PR Represents the magazine in key events Establishes, expands and strengthens the network of the magazine Establishes a positive image of the magazine by cultivating good relations with advertisers, media and industry partners COORDINATING FUNCTIONS Coordinates with the Advertising department for editorial-driven content and sponsorships, taking into account the voice and integrity of the magazine Participates in client presentations by presenting and familiarizing clients, media buyers and planners with relevant information pertaining to the magazine, as needed Coordinates with the Integrated Marketing Group for advertorials and special executions, as needed Coordinates with the Associate Publisher in all activities or events that support the magazine, and with the Marketing, Advertising and Circulation departments to generate improved content, visibility, circulation, ad placements, and image Minimum Qualifications:
Work Experience: Minimum 2 years of writing and editorial experience Interest in and exposure to areas relevant to the theme of the assigned magazine Skills Required: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills In-depth knowledge of the theme and market/audience of the assigned magazine Above average proficiency in writing and editing Highly capable of multi-tasking and able to lead, manage and develop staff Strong problem-solving and organizational skills Proficient in MS Office Personality Traits: Highly competent, driven and committed to excellence Articulate, sociable and well-connected Has integrity and high moral standards High tolerance for stress and detail-oriented Confident
