Essential Job Duties:
The Lab Coordinator position will be located in Asheville, NC and will work with other NC State and UNCA faculty and staff in the mechatronics engineering program. The employee will be primarily responsible for working with NC State faculty in Electrical and Computer Engineering in the coordination and instruction of labs associated with the electrical engineering classes.
Other responsibilities may include the teaching of locally taught classes in the mechatronics program, facilitation of EE courses delivered from NC State, and the mentorship of engineering students. The employee will report directly to the NC State Director of Engineering Online and work closely with the Director and Department Chair of the Mechatronics Program in Asheville.
The employee will hold the rank of Lecturer within the Department of Electrical Engineering and NC State.
Other Work/Responsibilities:
This position may be asked to assist with student engineering groups, supervise student workers, prepare for the electrical engineering lab work including preparation and clean-up, and be responsible for ensuring that the lab equipment is properly working and supplies are ordered and maintained properly for current and future use.
This position may be asked to attend special departmental meetings on campus. Additional work responsibilities, such as summer camps and outreach, may be included based upon the needs of the mechatronics program.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Experience/Education:
Require post-baccalaureate credentials or a bachelor’s degree plus alternative or equivalent professional training and experience may be substituted for the advanced degree on an exceptional basis.
Required Qualifications:
Must be able to travel to Raleigh to meet with electrical engineering faculty, attend college or university meetings and other special events as needed.
Must have had experience with Analog Discovery 2 in electrical engineering labs.
Must have excellent management and organizational skills in the use of time and resources and in the coordination of engineering labs.
Must be able to work independently and in a team environment with administrators, faculty on both campuses and colleagues.
Must be willing to perform other duties as needed for the academic program.
Must be able to define and describe mechatronics engineering to prospective students and their parents and high school/college advisors.
Ability to communicate clearly and distinctly in verbal and written communications
Demonstrated understanding of the basic principles and foundation of engineering and the skills and competencies students need to complete an undergraduate degree in engineering
Strong verbal communication skills needed to explain the theoretical engineering concepts and their applications to the role of a practicing engineer

Preferred Qualifications:
Master of Science in Electrical Engineering or PhD in Electrical Engineering in progress or completed
Strong background in mechatronics engineering
Experience in working in industry or related experience in teaching and working with
undergraduate students.
