Summary
The Digital Communications Specialist uses digital channels to dynamically communicate to ChildFund’s target audiences our work, messages and achievements. The post also involves encouraging colleagues across the organisation to engage with digital communications activities.
S/he is responsible for engaging ChildFund’s various internal and external audiences online, through creative use and effective management of digital channels, including the website, social media and e-bulletins. An expert in building online communities, s/he leads on developing ChildFund’s online profile in Sri Lank, Indonesia and Philippines. This is done through ensuring that we maintain a strong and consistent presence on selected social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Youtube) and that we are sharing content through relevant third party websites and newsletters. S/he is responsible for using various tools to monitor website, intranet and other online statistics, reporting on results and then working with developers and others to improve usability, engagement and visibility. With excellent writing, copyediting and proofreading skills and sound technical ability, s/he creates high quality written and multimedia content and manages our film, audio and photography resources.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Communications Strategy
Contributes to the development and implementation of Communications strategy for each Country Office in areas of Digital Communication, to build visibility, including managing a network of effective media relations, projecting a unified image that establishes ChildFund as a leading child-focused international development organization.

Online Community Management and Multimedia
Manage ChildFund’s profiles and engage with audiences, across key social media sites (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Flickr and YouTube) across all three COs.
Ensure ChildFund in specific COs features on relevant external websites and that our work is promoted via appropriate third party online channels.
Create and implement digital communication plans around key events/pieces of work.
Coordinate a schedule of e-bulletins including collating and producing content and distributing to specified mailing lists.
Keep abreast of the latest innovations in digital communications and make suggestions for new ways of promoting ChildFund’s work and messages online.
Manage our multimedia resources, including developing and maintaining the photo library – and when appropriate – work with country teams to produce digital content to promote our work.
Monitor, record, evaluate and report on key social media and e-bulletin performance statistics and successes.

Brand, Visibility/Representation
Develop, implement and maintain an online communication presence using the web and social networks for all three countries.

Provide support to manage ChildFund’s representation, high-level events and activities to influence at strategic networks and coalitions, making visible ChildFund programmatic interventions and advocacy issues. Networking and coalition building would be a required precondition for policy reform.

Other Responsibilities
Participate in team and other organisational meetings or working groups as required.
Acts as back-up for the Communications Specialist – Content and PR. Works closely with the Communication Specialist –Content and PR on any other communications projects and activities and perform other duties and tasks as required, consistent with the skills and expertise of the postholder, in non-routine circumstances.
Responsible for supporting teams with digital communications activities, including training/coaching where necessary.

Child Safeguarding
Remain alert and responsive to any child safeguarding risks, acquire relevant knowledge and skills which will enable her/him to promote strong safeguarding practices, understand the child safeguarding policy and procedures, and conduct himself/herself in a manner consistent with the Child Safeguarding Policy

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
Minimum of 3-5 years of communication experience (digital communication desirable
Proven experience of managing organizational websites, including planning content priorities, writing, preparing and uploading content, maintaining the backend CMS (ideally using Drupal) and working with developers to develop functionality and solve technical issues.
Knowledge of best practice in website/intranet design, search engine optimization techniques and a good understanding of emerging digital trends.
A strong track record of effectively utilizing and developing a presence on, key social media platforms – including Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, Flickr and Twitter – to build relationships and share information.
Experience of measuring the performance of websites and digital channels, establishing/reporting against performance indicators.
Experience of producing and/or managing multimedia content such as photography, film and audio (essential), including some experience of basic film/audio editing (desirable).
Demonstrable experience of supporting colleagues with digital communications activities, through either coaching/training or assisting with particular projects.
Experience of working internationally or in a multicultural environment with a strong understanding of international issues (essential), and familiarity with the field of child development, child rights or international development (desirable).
Strong writing, copyediting and proofreading skills with the ability to make complex information accessible, craft engaging online copy and a familiarity with optimizing text for search engines.
Communications ‘flair’ with the ability to think creatively, spot a good story and communicate this in the most interesting and/or effective way.
Excellent organizational and project management skills with the ability to meet deadlines, manage a complex and varied workload, prioritizes tasks and work well under pressure.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree or higher required in Public Relations/Journalism/Corporate Communications/ Marketing Relations or related field.
Support
The Digital Communication specialist can draw on the support of global team members in the development of his/her responsibilities. Preferably, these global team members provide input into recruitment, performance planning and evaluation. The primary global team members for this position will be:
Fundraising and engagement (external communication): Brand and Communication Manager
Strategy (internal communications): Manager, Internal Communications
