The Department of English, Germanic and Romance at Copenhagen University seeks an associate professor in Modern German Language to start on Jan 1st 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter. The institute is a vibrant workplace with over 800 students and approximately 150 employees. We offer courses from a variety of linguistic, historical, and literary perspectives in French, Spanish, Italian, German and English. The position involves research, teaching and guidance on topics related to modern German language and linguistics. The successful applicant will be able to teach widely in the linguistic disciplines at all levels, mentor graduate students in grammatical and linguistic fields, and contribute to linguistics research across the institute. We will welcome applicants with an ability to contribute to one of the institute’s existing research fora (these include groups working on norm, variation and language change, literary translation, and sociolinguistics), as well those with taking a comparative or cross-linguistic perspective or with experience in the creative use of a digital corpus.
Qualifications
In addition to a PhD in German language, the applicant should have a proven record of teaching excellence and a willingness, where necessary, to acquire a working knowledge of Danish within 2 years. The successful applicant will have strong international publications, evidence of leadership in research development, and of success in seeking external research funding. An ability to contribute to discussions about the future of language learning in Denmark and across Europe will also be an advantage.
