The College of Arts and Sciences at the University of La Verne invites applications for a faculty member with potential leadership duties as Chair in the Department of Kinesiology at the rank of tenure-track Associate Professor/Professor. The appointment will begin with the 2020/2021 academic year.
The Kinesiology Department serves approximately 300 majors in three programs: Masters of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT), Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with concentrations in Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) and Health and Human Performance (HHP).
The department is committed to teaching and scholarly excellence, values multicultural perspectives, fosters a collegial learning community for students and faculty, and actively strives to incorporate cultural diversity into our work. The Kinesiology Department is part of the College of Arts and Sciences, which is engaged in developing The La Verne Experience, a University-wide initiative that integrates curricular, co-curricular, and community engagement. As a holistic educational approach, it focuses on Learning Communities, Theory-to-Practice, Experiential Learning, and Integrated Learning. Candidates will be expected to collaborate in departmental efforts with The La Verne Experience, including interdisciplinary approaches to education and innovative undergraduate research.

Specific Duties:
Candidates must demonstrate an understanding of teaching/research/service at a liberal arts college as well as an understanding of the mission and vision of the University of La Verne. The successful candidate will demonstrate leadership and be able to facilitate faculty, staff, and student development through mentoring and advocacy.
The chair is expected to facilitate and promote a strong collegial and intellectual climate that encourages research and collaboration with other departments. In addition, the chair administers the department, engages in research and scholarly activities, teaches in areas of expertise, and participates in faculty governance.

Minimum Qualifications:
Earned doctorate within the broad scope of Kinesiology, Human Movement and Sports Sciences; and evidence of scholarly productivity.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in managing curriculum, budget, and personnel of diverse backgrounds
A successful history of academic leadership as well as a record of working with diverse populations
Ability to facilitate faculty, staff, and student development through mentoring and advocacy
Expertise in exercise physiology, biomechanics, or motor learning/control
