Savannah State University seeks qualified applicants for Assistant Professor of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (tenure track) in the Department of Political Science and Public Affairs of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS); this appointment will begin fall 2020. The Department welcomes applications from individuals who are prepared to teach core courses and electives. The normal teaching load is 12 hours per semester with advising and community service responsibilities. Faculty may be directed to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically delineated in this description. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Competitive candidates will be student-centered, effective teachers who will also be expected to engage in research, academic advising, and community service. Familiarity with SACSCOC accreditation standards and program assessment is needed.
Minimum Qualifications
A Ph.D. in Public Administration, Public Affairs, or Public Policy with a concentration in Homeland Security and Emergency Management is required; ABDs will be considered, but the Ph.D. must be completed within 1 year of the hire date.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience teaching courses at the undergraduate and graduate level in emergency management and homeland security.
Demonstrated engagement with local, regional, national, and/or international HSEM organizations.
