Position Description Summary
The Music Program within the Corcoran School of the Arts and Design at The George Washington University invites applications for a full-time, renewable contract (3-year appointments), Assistant Professor of Computer Music and Multimedia Composition. The appointment begins as early as August 2019.
The Program welcomes candidates who are committed to:
research that crosses traditional boundaries and explores diverse educational models within the liberal arts environment;
collaborative partnerships in scholarship and/or creative activities;
interdisciplinary approaches to teaching, and to building community inside and outside the academy;
the intersection of musical genres and practices;
related topics, such as sound design, music production, interactivity, diversity of practice.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
The holder of the position will be expected to establish a record of strong creative activity both within and beyond the university.
The successful candidate’s primary duties will include teaching technical, composition, and creative courses at the introductory and advanced levels in music and new media for majors and non-majors, advising majors and minors within the music program and oversight of the electronic/computer music studio.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must have the following:
A terminal degree by the date of appointment: DMA or PhD in Composition, Computer Music, or related field; MFA in Electronic and Time-based Media, Sound, or related field.
An active record of creative practice.
Broad based expertise in contemporary issues and practices in computer music and multimedia composition.
At least 2 years of college/university teaching experience at the undergraduate level, or equivalent.
Advertised Salary:Salary will be commensurate with experience
