Job Description:
Join an innovative and energized faculty dedicated to the preparation of teacher candidates, leaders and change agents focused on school reform and social justice. Due to the rapid growth in our undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral degree programs, the Annsley Frazier Thornton School of Education at Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky invites applications for a tenure-track position (Assistant or Associate level) as we continue to develop literacy education programs and partnerships. This position has an August 15, 2019 start date.
Primary responsibilities will be to teach literacy education courses (and other general education courses), and to work with students and colleagues in the School of Education and across the University and Community to develop programs that support adolescent literacy development. The successful candidate will demonstrate a research agenda that involves work in adolescent literacy, experience securing external funding to support program and research initiatives, and experience with online and in-person teaching methods. Our new colleague will also demonstrate dedication to outreach programs, participation in all school accreditation activities and academic advising, and service to candidate’s professional field, university, and community. To qualify for appointment at the Associate Professor level, candidates must currently hold or have held that rank at a comparable institution.
Requirements:
Requirements for this position include:
An earned doctorate in literacy education, English education, or a closely related field from a regionally and nationally accredited university
A minimum of three years P-12 teaching experience
Demonstrated expertise in middle and/or high school literacy instruction
Hold a current teaching certificate
Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds
Experience using culturally relevant and/or social justice principles in teaching
Evidence of excellence in teaching
Evidence of excellence in scholarly productivity

Additional Information:
Preferred Qualifications include the following:
Experience in adolescent literacy education is highly preferred
Experience with outreach programs and/or conducting professional development for in-service teachers
Record of successful collaboration with school districts
Demonstrated understanding of adolescent literacy education and middle and high school teacher preparation
Experience in applying for external funding
Demonstrated research agenda related to adolescent literacy education or a closely related area
Experience serving on/chairing doctoral committees
